Just a few months after the official opening ceremony for the new punching center in Wiener Neudorf, construction is progressing with impressive momentum. What was launched on November 04, 2025, in the presence of Federal Minister Peter Hanke, TSA CEOs Robert Tencl and Harold Schmidt, as well as numerous representatives from politics and business as a clear commitment to the future, has now become visible reality: Plant 3a is rising – on schedule, with strength, and with industrial precision.
With the new punching center on a total site area of 3,000 m² and a built-up production area of 1,200 m², Traktionssysteme Austria is investing approximately 9.5 MEUR in the sustainable strengthening of the Wiener Neudorf location. The objective is to significantly increase in-house production depth in the field of electrical steel lamination manufacturing, reduce lead times, and further expand industrial value creation in Austria. The new punching center will create the basis to produce around 80 % of electrical laminations in-house in the future – a substantial increase compared to the previous in-house production rate of approximately 20 – 25 %.
The foundation for industrial excellence
The figures speak for themselves – and for the dimension of this project:
- 7,500 tons of excavated earth have been moved to date
The extensive earthworks marked the first milestone. 7,500 tons correspond to the volume of several hundred truckloads – a logistical and structural achievement implemented in close coordination with regional partner companies. Even at this early stage, it was clear: this project is not only an internal investment initiative but also a stimulus for the regional construction and supplier industry.
- 21 tons of reinforcement steel installed
A total of 21 tons of reinforcement steel have been incorporated into the foundation and concrete base structure. This invisible yet load-bearing structure forms the backbone of the building. It ensures stability, durability, and the necessary vibration damping for highly precise punching processes.
- 126 tons of structural steel already assembled
With the installation of 126 tons of structural steel, shell construction has reached a new phase. The hall structure is now clearly recognizable, and the load-bearing framework is in place.
The steel structure forms the basis for:
• spacious, optimized production areas,
• clearly defined material flow concepts,
• and future expandability in line with the modular TSA City concept.
“What is being created here is not just another production building. It is a state-of-the-art competence center for punching and lamination processing, a central element of the long-term TSA City strategy,” says Robert Tencl, CEO of Traktionssysteme Austria. “The new Plant 3a has been designed to allow for future capacity expansions. Scalability is a key element of our long-term site development.”
Next project phases
The next milestone is clearly defined. Completion of the building envelope is scheduled for mid-March 2026. Once the building is fully enclosed, a new phase of the project begins: installation of the floor slab, implementation of technical infrastructure, and start of interior works. All trades are currently working at high intensity to meet the ambitious construction timeline.
By mid-August 2026, the building must be completed to the extent that the new tandem punching press can be installed and the existing press successfully relocated. This transition will mark the start of the project’s industrial core phase.
“With Plant 3a, TSA is creating the infrastructural foundation for further growth in electric drive systems for the mobility of the future,” says Harold Schmidt, CEO of Traktionssysteme Austria.
A detailed update on the new tandem punching press will follow in one of our upcoming press releases.
