Our vision and mission statement

According to a SCI Consulting Group report, mobility and transport are responsible for 25% of global CO₂ emissions and are therefore a key factor in meeting emissions targets. E-mobility is the only technological solution in the near future with the potential to significantly decarbonise the transport sector.

One of the cornerstones of TSA’s corporate success is its technological expertise in the development and manufacture of its products. The electric drives will be smaller, lighter, more cost-effective and more energy-efficient. This is our contribution to the transition to zero-emission vehicles in both the rail and road sectors.

As a specialized Original Equipment Manufacturer, we are the only company in the market which solely and exclusively produces traction systems and is free from any corporate interests. As a result, we can concentrate at all times on what is important: the consistent enhancement of traction motors, gearboxes, generators and the complete drive system. Our actions are not determined by stock prices – our customers’ wishes and satisfaction are important to us.

The technology provided by TSA is used successfully on all continents. In the last 25 years, more than 90,000 Traktionssysteme Austria motors have been delivered. Thanks to a global company structure, smart logistics and a mobile service team, we are always there whenever our customers need support.

(partial production in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Traction Systems China (Procurement Representative in Shanghai) and Medha Traction Equipment Pvt. Ltd. (JV company with Medha Servo Drives based in Hyderabad, India).

In 2010, the plant in Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina started production. Traktionssysteme Bosnia d.o.o. employs 200 people in the production of subcomponents for asynchronous motors.

Traction Systems Inc.

We have established operations in the USA to serve our North American customers and to handle projects that must comply with the Buy America Act. Traction Systems Inc., located in Somerville, New Jersey, is available to customers in North America as a direct and local contact for all products and services.

Traction Systems Inc. achieved its first successes on the North American market, for example, by equipping the light rail systems in Phoenix (Arizona) and Seattle (Washington). In addition, motors were also developed and built for the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority and for the Caltrain (high-speed train through Silicon Valley) vehicles.

Traction Systems China

Suppliers in the People’s Republic of China have proved to be indispensable partners for the manufacture of TSA products. Against this backdrop, Traktionssysteme Austria succeeded in further expanding its global presence by opening its subsidiary Traction Systems China in Shanghai in April 2019. The close proximity to Chinese suppliers gives us competitive advantages in sourcing materials.

Medha Traction Equipment Pvt. Ltd.

The signing of a joint venture in 2009 with the Indian company Medha Servo Drives Ltd., a manufacturer of electrical equipment for rail vehicles, marked a major step into this overseas market. India is considered one of the world’s largest markets for rail vehicles. As part of the Make in India Initiative, we are thus in a position to manufacture motors, gearboxes and generators in India for the Indian market.

Innovation Management is key to success

TSA brings future electromobility to rail and road today

In order to further shape the future of electromobility for rolling stock and commercial road vehicles, we believe that the only way to continuously improve and optimize our products and services is through innovation management. At TSA, however, we do not see this as a sole management task. At our company, every single employee is part of this culture.

Thanks to the close collaboration of our development teams with our customers, we can react very quickly to new requirements. The interdepartmental communication tools help to develop and implement solutions and ideas faster and more efficiently. We also consider new technical possibilities and product ideas to ensure that we are not only always up to date, but also often one step ahead of our competitors.

The main areas of development that we are constantly working on include the reduction of operating noise, the optimization of the coordination between motor and inverter and the use of new materials. The core competence in traction motor manufacturing includes mastering thermal requirements. To fulfill these demands, we are constantly working on new cooling concepts and improvements. In addition to this, it is necessary to utilize modern calculation and simulation tools, some of which are developed by TSA and tailored to our needs. We are supported in our research work by renowned universities in Austria and abroad.

Where can you see TSA’s innovations? We precisely reduced the noise emissions of our specially developed electric drives for metro trains of a European metropolis. The vehicles will offer a totally new travel experience to the passengers during the ride. Another customer of TSA was able to build its rail vehicles with significantly more passenger space thanks to our innovative concept of the electric motor. Innovation Management at TSA goes beyond borders as we design and build electric motors for transport systems that do not even exist yet, such as for the Hyperloop!

Designing and manufacturing traction motors and generators is our core business. We manufacture sustainable, resource-saving and energy-efficient products, always placing great value on operative excellency and efficiency. This is the basis for our understanding of quality management. Beside our focus on high quality production, we attach great importance to environmental protection and the protection of our employees as well as safety aspects in general.

Our commitment is well-documented, with the TSA Quality Management System being certified according to ISO 9001, supported and advanced by ISO/TS 22163 (IRIS). In addition to our Quality Management System, the Environment Management System has been incorporated according to ISO 14001 and the Energy Management System according to ISO 50001.
