When InnoTrans 2026 opens its doors in Berlin, one question will dominate the international rail industry: How can increasing performance demands, complex operating environments, and maximum energy efficiency be combined within a single drive system? Traktionssysteme Austria (TSA) has the answer. At the world’s leading trade fair for rail technology, the company will showcase the next generation of electric drive systems designed to meet exactly these challenges. The spotlight will be on highly specialized traction solutions for international rolling stock platforms – including the drive system for Stuttgart’s new DT8.16 light rail vehicles – as well as modular platform technologies that raise the bar for performance, efficiency, and system integration.

From September 22 – 25, the global mobility industry will gather in Berlin, where TSA will present its latest electric drive technologies for rail and commercial road vehicles in hall 18 at booth #300.

Under the motto “More Power. More Innovation. More Future.”, the company will demonstrate how modular motor platforms are already shaping the future of sustainable mobility – from highly specialized rail applications to advanced electric bus solutions serving customers around the world.

High-Performance Solutions for the Global Rail Industry
With 6 exhibits, TSA will present a cross-section of current international projects, each engineered to meet the unique requirements of modern rail transportation.

• TSA will showcase the TMF 50-29-4 traction motor, developed for PESA’s ELF2.eu electric multiple units operating in Romania’s regional and interregional rail network. Designed for maximum reliability, energy efficiency, and robust day-to-day performance, the compact motor helps operators achieve dependable and cost-effective fleet operation. Installed in PESA’s new EMUs, the motors support operating speeds of up to 160 km/h and contribute to a new generation of regional trains offering enhanced passenger comfort, greater energy efficiency, and more sustainable rail transportation.
• One of the highlights at the TSA booth will be the complete drive system consisting of the TMR 39A-28-4 traction motor paired with the GMH 2-70-435A gearbox, developed for the next-generation DT-8.16 light rail vehicles operated by Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG (SSB). Stuttgart’s light rail network presents one of the most demanding operating environments in Europe, characterized by steep gradients of up to 8.5 percent, significant elevation changes, tunnels, and above-ground sections. TSA’s drive system has been specifically engineered to meet these challenges. The enclosed, self-ventilated traction motor combines outstanding efficiency with a highly integrated design, delivering reliable performance under demanding operating conditions.
• For Stadler Rail’s EURODuFour locomotive platform developed for SBB Cargo, TSA will present the TMF 69-42-6 high-performance traction motor. Designed specifically for heavy freight applications in Switzerland, the new locomotive platform represents the next generation of powerful and energy-efficient freight locomotives. Based on TSA’s proven EURO motor platform, the TMF 69-42-6 has been further optimized in terms of power density, efficiency, and overall system performance, helping make rail freight transportation both more economical and more sustainable.
• For CAF’s new INNEO metro platform, TSA supplies TME 45-16-4 traction motors specifically designed for the demanding environmental conditions of Scandinavia. Snow, ice, and extremely low temperatures place exceptional demands on the entire propulsion system. All bogies are powered to maximize traction and energy efficiency, while integrated onboard battery systems enable trains to continue operating to the next station in the event of a power interruption. TSA’s motors are optimized for high efficiency and low noise emissions, making a significant contribution to the performance and reliability of Oslo’s metro network.
• TSA will also showcase the TME 43-23-4 traction motor, developed for Bozankaya’s new metro trains operating in Istanbul. Given the city’s high service frequency and demanding operating conditions, the motor was designed with optimized cooling performance and a particularly robust mechanical design. One of its key features is the ability to continue operating even if one-third of the traction system becomes unavailable, ensuring exceptional operational reliability and availability. The motor also incorporates TSA’s proven TSA-DUR winding insulation system together with a self-cooled machine design for maximum reliability and long service life.
• In addition to its rail portfolio, TSA will demonstrate how decades of rail propulsion expertise can successfully be transferred to commercial road applications. The company will present its HD.T3+ Heavy-Duty motor platform for electric buses – a modular motor family engineered for a broad range of operating profiles, from city buses to demanding intercity applications.Compared with the HD.T3 platform, the HD.T3+ delivers significantly higher continuous power and substantially greater continuous torque while maintaining an efficiency of more than 97 percent. This makes it particularly well suited for heavier vehicles, lower axle ratios, and applications requiring consistently high performance.
