The European Union’s climate protection targets for 2030 will also force airports to rapidly reduce CO2 emissions. By then, the greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced by 40% below the 1990 level. The electrification of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) also plays an important role in meeting these regulations in the long term. Particularly in this respect, TSA is making a valuable contribution to the decarbonized mobility of tomorrow with its powerful and efficient electric motors.
TSA’s innovative drives for urban electric buses have already been used successfully in local public transport. With its newly developed electric motors for commercial road vehicles, the company is now about to enter the market for airport vehicles. ‚We are continuously working on the further development of our product portfolio. For their vehicles, our international customers expect lighter and more reliable drive solutions in both the rail and road sectors. We also have a packed development pipeline that we are constantly working on to remain the market leader for electric drives in the future‘, says Robert Tencl, Traktionssysteme Austria’s CEO.
The Austrian company in Wiener Neudorf manufactures electromechanical drives for rolling stock and road vehicles and has been supplying its products to more than 60 countries worldwide for over 60 years. Among the numerous international vehicles that are equipped with electric drives from TSA are Caltrain in the Silicon Valley (USA), the metros in Berlin and Moscow, the Flexity in Vienna and the Trollino in Salzburg.
‚We are convinced that the electric drive is the future. Everything that can be electrified, will be electrified. The electrical energy is mainly generated from renewable primary energy sources. According to the specific requirements of the vehicle, the energy can be stored in batteries, supplied directly through the catenary, or generated via hydrogen and fuel cells in order to be provided for operation. Towards the end of this century, vehicles with combustion engines will tend to lose importance‘, Robert Tencl states.
TSA is now also supplying electric drives for pushback trucks, baggage tractors and cargo loaders to make electric mobility available efficiently and reliably at airports. With the development of these innovative electric motors, the company is pursuing a clear growth strategy for implementing future mobility requirements for commercial road vehicles.
