Drives for Glasgow Subway

The Glasgow Subway is an underground metro line in Scotland´s biggest city. It is the third-oldest underground metro system in the world after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro and was opened in December 1896. In a consortium with Ansaldo STS, Stadler Rail won a tender in 2016 for 17 new vehicles. The completely modernized system will have a fleet of 17 driverless trains.

The motors and gear units of the 136 drives will be developed as well as manufactured by TSA. The first TSA deliveries are scheduled for 2018. The trains are expected to enter passenger service in 2020.
